2020/2021 University Admission: How COVID-19 Will Affect University Admission.
COVID-19 has changed our lives and has had a transformative impact that the world has not experienced since the Great Spanish flu pandemic. To that effect, most universities around the world are implementing procedures to ensure that university applications and enrollment run as smoothly as possible.
Universities have been encouraged to deploy online tuition with strict quality assurance guidelines. There are tech-enabled approaches for many programs already in place, and this is to ensure that the current academic calendar is hitch-free to ease graduation and progression at various levels.
Universities are positive and hopeful that the 2020 academic resumption is almost certain. This certainty will be determined by the public health guidelines that are to be released by the authorities regarding physical resumption on campus. Universities are geared to offer a combination of online and on-campus classes, depending on the future outcome of this pandemic.
Whatever the situation will be, universities will send frequent updates and communicate in detail to current and prospective students as more guidelines are released regarding resumption.
Parents and Wards are faced with several options:
Option 1 – A delayed start of the term from September to possibly October, November, or January 2021.
Option 2 – To offer a mix of online and campus taught programs (i.e. Semester 1 online) and once travel restrictions are lifted, students will resume on campus to continue their academics.
Option 3 – To have the First Year taught online and then proceed to campus to continue the remaining years.
Option 4 – To defer admission to September 2021.
Universities will offer several flexible options, but learning will certainly continue.
In the light of these developments, universities will be relying on the final University Foundation Program results from students as most conditional offers are dependent on the final results. All students (Cambridge A’ level and UFP) are advised to take their ongoing online classes and assessments seriously as they will contribute to your final performance.
